I'm a long time fan of the series and this one did not disappoint. It is like comparing Star Trek to Star Trek, the Next Generation. Shop books, stationery, devices and other learning essentials. It is not fair to compare these titles with earlier books, as they are an attempt to make these titles contemporary. The authorities are unwilling to investigate, except for a fresh lieutenant looking to prove himself and a collection of unlikely jokers forced to take matters into their own hands—or tentacles. "Wild Cards" deals up the variety of short fiction without losing the continuity of a novel.
Fine example of the Wild Cards series of multi-author multi-character mixes of individuals given superpowers or horrible disfigurements or death by an alien virus (yes, I know how that sounds, but it is an engrossing series, some segments better than others per the authors involved); but unfortunately this one seems to end on a cliff-hanger, pointing to a sequel that is not visibly out yet. One by one, each falls victim to evil forces--including the dark impulses within themselves.
